MFT&SRP #1614
March 2003

Professional Development--A log of professional development hours was placed in teacher mailboxes last week. It is our understanding that the state is requiring that school districts submit this information. Building administrators may be asked any questions you have regarding the forms.

MFT&SRP Convention--Nominations are open for delegates to attend the MFT&SRP Convention scheduled on May 2-4, 2003 at Detroit's Marriott Hotel. All members in good standing are eligible for election. There are seven delegates to be elected. Send your nominee's name to Elections Chairperson, Eileen Gottlieb. The election will take place on April 16th.

Proposed Legislation--There are several issues in Lansing that need your attention. Once again there is legislation to increase the cap on charter schools. Charter schools will only drain the already limited resources of public schools.Visit the MFT&SRP webpage, http://www.mftsrp.org to find more information in the political action section of the page.

AFT Hopgood Award--The first-ever Rollie Hopgood Award, named in honor of former MFT&SRP president, Rollie Hopgood was awarded to the Michigan Federation of Teachers and School Related Personnel for exemplary efforts to build state federation capacity. Rollie would be very proud.

LFT Social--Thanks to all of the individuals who joined in the fun at Marinelli's. Seventy-seven people attended and a good time was had by all.
