Early Notification of Retirement--LFT members who may be planning to retire at the end of the school year may receive a $1500 bonus or a computer (no details yet) for notifying the district by April 7th. The Federation had sent a letter asking for a meeting to discuss the possibility of a retirement buyout. This offer was rejected.
Sick Day Donation-- A sincere thanks to the 50+ individuals who offered to donate a sick day to Theresa Gerstler. It is heartening to know that so many individuals were willing to help a fellow union member.

MFT&SRP Parental Involvement Survey--The MFT&SRP has requested that members answer the EPIC-MIRA survey on parental involvement. You will find it on the MFT&SRP webpage http://mftsrp.org.
Lobby Day--Thanks to the Chris Anderson, Mary Ellen Bell, Ross Cardew, George King, Michelle Lass, Sue Mueller, Marsha Nieschulowski, Judy Schram, Maggie Surma and Dave Wrobel. We had one of the highest turnouts for a local of our size. We were able to hear from Mike Pumford, a Republican representative from Newaygo. He spoke about the challenges presented on a daily basis to those representatives that believe in the value of public schools. He encouraged us to keep up the fight for public schools by activism and contributing to candidates that support our cause.
LFT Contract--The newest version of the LFT Contract is posted to the website. It is in the Contract page.
NCLB--Some recent changes have been made to NCLB. Go to the AFT website for the newest fact sheet.
Respectfully submitted,
Judy Schram, LFT Vice-President
